RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One of the suspects charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man in Rankin County appeared in court on Thursday.
During his initial court appearance, 20-year-old Ryan Duette received a $500,000 bond. He was charged with second degree murder.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the sheriff’s office received a call just before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23 about a gunshot victim at a home. The home is located in the 300 block of North Grove Circle in the Reservoir area.
The caller stated she arrived home and found her son unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound to his side inside the residence.
The Rankin County coroner identified the victim as Bryson Horne. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
An affidavit alleged that Duette shot Horne during the sale of a firearm.
Jason Dare, legal council for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said Horne is the brother of 14-year-old Cameron Horne-Crook, who was shot and killed in Jackson on March 25, 2024.
“We are looking into every possible motive for the shooting. We to date have not found any correlation between the prior shooting of this victim’s brother, but we are continuing to look into all possible motives,” said Dare.
According to Bailey, witnesses stated they saw a small, white passenger car leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
Around noon, the sheriff said Duette and Lainey Ingle, 20, came to the sheriff’s office and stated that they were involved in an altercation with the victim and wanted to turn themselves in and make a statement.
Investigators said firearms were recovered from the vehicle Duette and Ingle were driving.
Ingle has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder. According to Dare, Ingle waived her initial appearance and bonded out on Wednesday for $50,000.
