FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) made a stop in Mississippi on Thursday, April 25.

Johnson spoke at Jackson Preparatory School during an event hosted by the National Apostolic Christian Leadership Conference (NACLC).

While reporters were unable to ask Johnson questions, some students at Jackson Prep were given the opportunity. One of those students was 11th grader Sophie Slade.

“I asked him how he balances his priorities between foreign policy and domestic policy,” she said.

Johnson responded by saying he believes in America first, but he can’t believe in America only. When it comes to foreign and domestic policy, Johnson said in part, “It doesn’t mean that we can or should be the world’s policeman. If we project weakness like we are right now, it’s dangerous not just for people around the world, but ultimately for use as well.

Johnson also spoke about issues at the southern border and his speech at Columbia University on Wednesday regarding the protests in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas.
