JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson State University’s (JSU) Women’s Basketball head coach Tomekia Reed announced she is stepping down at the university to take a job at Charlotte.

Since 2019, Reed and the Lady Tigers have dominated the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) with five regular season SWAC titles. Under Reed, Jackson State won their third SWAC championship, earning a spot in the NCAA tournament.

As a head coach, Reed holds an overall record 125-54 including a 95-10 conference record, coming off three consecutive 20+ win seasons.

She has had two WNVA draft picks under her tenure with Ameshya Williams-Holliday in 2022 and Angel Jackson in 2024.

Tiger fans said they’re going to miss Reed and wish her the best in Charlotte.

“I am so sad. But you know, she did great things at Jackson State, and it’s going to be really hard to replace her. She’s a very good coach, and I wish you all the success. And we love her, and she will always be a JSU superstar,” said Jeniece Crawford, a longtime JSU fan.

Reed posted on Instagram that this is not a goodbye to JSU and that she will be forever a Tiger.

All eyes now look to JSU Athletic Director Ashley Robinson to fill the empty coaching seat.
