RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Madison County School District said a student was found with a gun on the Ridgeland High School campus.

The incident happened on Friday, April 26. According to Gene Graham, director of communications for the school district, other students reported their concerns to teachers who quickly intervened.

Graham said the student was found with a gun inside a backpack. The student and the weapon were removed from campus without incident, and an investigation is underway.

“The safety of our students and faculty is our highest priority. We encourage parents to remind their children that bringing weapons of any kind to school is not tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion,” said Graham.

Officials said Ridgeland High School parents and guardians were notified about the incident by a message from Principal Crystal Chase.
