GULFPORT, Miss. (WJTV) – A stabbing investigation led to an officer-involved shooting in Gulfport, according to authorities.

The incident occurred near Reed Avenue on Saturday, May 4.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Gulfport police were responding to a call about a stabbing.

When officers arrived at the location, Martin said an altercation occurred between an officer and the suspect. During the altercation, the officer shot the suspect.

According to Martin, the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer involved received no serious physical injuries.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the officer-involved shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
