HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Renovations will soon be underway at the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson.
Hinds County Supervisors said the county has secured the funds to move forward with repairs.
According to officials, $3 million has been allocated to repair the courthouse roof. County leaders have been in contact with vendors to assess potential hazardous materials.
“We want to make sure that when people go to our historical courtroom that they’re not having to go past mold and mildew. They’re not having water being captured in buckets. It’s in bad shape. So, what we’re trying to do is to make sure that we upgrade it with the Department of Archives and History to make sure that the building is renovated properly,” said Supervisor Robert Graham, District 1.
Supervisor Wanda Evers, District 4, also suggested to test the courthouse paint for lead and asbestos.
