VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – A Vicksburg neighborhood was shaken up after a shooting on Friday, May 3.
Vicksburg police said they received multiple calls from residents in the 300 block of Meadowvale Drive. The neighbors said they heard gunshots in the area.
“At least maybe three houses, maybe more, have been hit with a few stray bullets. And there were several shell casings in the street from different weapons that had been fired,” said Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones. “It’s just hurtful, especially this is the neighborhood that I actually grew up in. So for me to get phone calls from people in the neighborhood who were very concerned about the shots fired, it was a random act. However, his deal on excusable.”
No one was injured during the shooting. Jones said video surveillance in communities like Meadowvale Drive is important.
“A few of the neighbors had cameras and never thought about checking for batteries or just checking videos to ensure that the camera system was working. So for people in the community, if you do have a camera system, check it often, check your batteries, check to make sure that it’s recording and doing exactly what it is you’re paying the service to do,” said Jones.
She said Vicksburg police has a person of interest in the case.
