JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson residents and city officials want answers following a JTRAN “sickout.”

During the Jackson City Council meeting on Tuesday, many questioned why passengers were left stranded with no means of transportation on Saturday, May 4.

JTRAN employees called out sick, leaving riders with no way to get to and from their destinations. One rider said they were stranded for at least three hours at the Walmart on Highway 18.

“I needed to go to Walmart. I got on the bus to go to Walmart. And I said, ‘I overheard that, you know, things are going to be shutting down early. Why?’ The driver looked at me like I was crazy, and I felt very disrespected at that time. You got too many drivers that don’t care and the attitudes show it,” said Will Devine, a JTRAN rider.

MV Transportation manages JTRAN. Officials with the organization said they’re taking action to prevent his from happening again. They also plan to meet with their employees’ union to get answers about the incident.
