JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson resident wants answers after he received a $17,000 water bill.

Samuel Harrison moved into his home on Larkspur Street in December 2023. Since then, Harrison said he had not received a bill from the water system until recently. When he finally received his bill, he didn’t expect the total amount.

He said, “I was kind of mad because I never seen a bill this this big before, because I was like, wait a minute, $17,000 in the state of Mississippi?”

Once he received the bill, Harrison said he knew something was wrong and contacted JXN Water.

“They just gave me a run around and told me, ‘Oh, you got to water leak.’ No, I don’t, because my landlord, she did a city inspection on the property before I moved. And I walked through and everything was working okay,” he explained.

Harrison and his girlfriend are the only two people who stay at the home. He believes that a street near his house may have a leak that led to his high water bill. He’s not ruling out that the water meter on his home may be faulty.

“There could be something wrong with it. Yeah, you know, they need to come out and look at it, see if they can put a new one in it, because it might be a malfunctioned meter,” he stated.

Harrison said JXN Water told him to hire his own plumber to see if there was a leak on his property.
