JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) has signed two pieces of high-profile legislation into law.

The governor signed the Mississippi Student Funding Formula, formerly known as the INSPIRE Act, into law on Wednesday, May 8. The new formula replaces the long-standing Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP).

The formula is estimated to bring an extra $250 million into Mississippi public schools.

Reeves also signed a bill that expands the boundaries of the Capitol Complex Improvement District (CCID). The district will now move further north to Westbrook Road and include the Kroger off of Interstate 55.

Jackson Academy, Spann Elementary and McLeod Elementary will also be included in the CCID.

Capitol police will have primary jurisdiction within these boundaries, which will go into effect on July 1, 2024.
