Former Mississippi police officer, wife charged in death of child

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A former West Point police officer and his wife have been charged in connection to the death of their four-month-old child.

The Daily Journal reported Donovan Jeffers, 24, and Quiyona Pederson, 25, were arrested in West Virginia in April 2024. They have since been booked into the Clay County Detention Center. Both Jeffers and Pederson have been charged with murder.

According to West Point police, the couple brought their infant to the North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point in November 2022 with head and neck injuries. The State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the child’s injuries were a result of abuse.

Investigators said arrest warrants were issued for the couple, but they fled the state.

Jeffers and Pederson each received a $300,000 bond.
