JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A South Jackson family said they’re grateful to be alive after a large tree fell on their home overnight.

The family, who lives on Dorgan Street, said a neighbor’s tree was uprooted by the strong winds.

Latonya Williams said she was lying in bed with her husband when the tree fell.

“Well, we were up last night watching the weather, like I said, because of the sirens going off and everything. And they said that the bad weather had passed. And so, I went to sleep. And around 12:30, my husband said he heard the tree creaking. And at that moment, he pushed me and woke me up and just told me to run,” she said.

They were able to evacuate their home after the impact. No one was injured.
