Suspect in Jackson apartment shooting escapes custody

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County deputies are searching for the suspect in connection to a shooting at Pine Ridge Gardens Apartments in Jackson.

According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, the suspect, who was identified as 25-year-old Ameni Olugbala, is partially handcuffed and was able to exit a deputy’s vehicle during transport for questioning. He escaped in the area of Gallatin St. and Hooker St.

Olugbala was last seen wearing red pants and black flip flops. He also has a burn mark on the upper part of his body.

According to Jones, Olugbala was arrested by Jackson police in August 2020 for murder and shooting in an occupied vehicle. He’s currently out on $100,000 bond as of May 2021. The sheriff said the status of his charges are unknown.

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An 18-year-old was injured after being shot at a Jackson apartment complex.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said the male victim was shot in the upper body at Pine Ridge Gardens Apartments on Rebel Woods Drive on Friday, May 10.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

Jones said a person of interest has been detained.
