BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – Trees, limbs, and power lines were down after Thursday night’s storms in Rankin County.

One resident in the Crossgates neighborhood in Brandon said his neighbor was hospitalized due to the weather.

“Well, apparently around 11:30 tonight, straight line winds came through here. It knocked a big oak tree and pine tree down in my neighbor’s yard. And I’ve got two cars under there. And it knocked the big oak tree down across the street and crushed two houses. So, one lady ended up going to the hospital. I think she’s going to be okay, but one lady ended up going to hospital. Everybody else would be okay,” said Jackson Jones, who lives in Brandon.

As of Friday morning, 14,477 Entergy Mississippi customers were without power in Rankin County.

Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) confirmed one person was injured during the storm in Rankin County. He said the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is currently assisting local emergency managers with damage assessments.
