JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The man accused of shooting an 18-year-old is now in custody.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said Ameni Olugbala, 25, turned himself in on Saturday, May 11. He has been charged with aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling and escape.
The shooting happened at Pine Ridge Gardens Apartments on Rebel Woods Drive on Friday, May 10. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Jones said the victim is in stable condition.
According to the sheriff, Olugbala was taken into custody on Friday, but he was able to exit a deputy’s vehicle during transport for questioning.

Jones said Olugbala was arrested by Jackson police in August 2020 for murder and shooting in an occupied vehicle. He was out on $100,000 bond as of May 2021. The sheriff said the status of those charges are unknown.
