PETAL, Miss. (WHLT) – Severe storms on Monday, May 13 caused damage in parts of the Pine Belt.
The wind sent a tree crashing through a mobile home on Shows Road in Petal. Dixie Bergeron, the homeowner, said she was in a bedroom with her daughter when they heard the tree fall.
“I jumped up, and we ran to go towards the living room and by the time we got from in the room, into the living room, there was a tree on this end,” she said.
The tree went through the roof of the home and on top of where another man was sleeping. Bergeron said the man was able to escape with only minor cuts and scratches.
Most of the home received structural damage from the tree.
Officials with Forrest County Emergency Management said roadways are clear, but they advised drivers to avoid any flooded areas.
In Jones County, officials said West Main Street in Sandersville from Interstate 59 to Highway 11 will remain closed until further notice due to storm cleanup. Hawks Road from Erata Road to Highway 11 will also remain closed until further notice due to storm cleanup.
