JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A South Jackson family’s home was damaged after a large tree collapsed through their roof early Monday morning. The incident happened on Cedar Pine Drive.
Timothy Rankin said his daughter survived the close encounter. A tree and debris landed just mere inches away from where the family was sleeping.
“I heard some screaming, holler, ‘Get up, get up.’ So, everybody ran. I jumped up and heard the crackling of a tree coming through the roof. A big old branch came directly through the roof and landed right in front of my bed and just went straight into the floor,” he said.
The large tree fell from a neighbor’s backyard. The family said they’re now working to figure out what’s next for them.
