18-year-old charged in Facebook Marketplace robbery in Byram

BYRAM, Miss. (WJTV) – Byram police arrested an 18-year-old in connection to a robbery that happened during a Facebook Marketplace transaction.

Police responded to the Chevron gas station on Siwell Road on Thursday, April 11, 2024. When officers arrived at the location, the victim stated that he began communicating with the suspect through Facebook Marketplace.

According to investigators, the suspect, 18-year-old Torian Josiah Catchings, created an advertisement trying to sell an iPhone 6 for $200. They said the victim agreed to meet Catchings at one of the apartment complexes within Byram city limits. Police said Catchings robbed the victim at gunpoint.

Catchings was later arrested by Byram police after a felony bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center on an armed robbery charge.
