JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A driver has died following a fiery crash in Jackson.

The crash happened before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at the intersection of Old Canton Road and Rolling Meadows Drive.

Detective Tommie Brown said an officer pulled someone over, who was speeding on Old Canton Road. The driver told police he was trying to get to a friend, who had called and said he had wrecked.

The officer followed the driver, and they found the wrecked vehicle. Brown said the car had hit a tree and caught fire. They tried to save the man, but he was pinned.

The Hinds County coroner said the man’s body was severely burned.
