FBI raids business, office of Hinds County district attorney

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have executed search warrants at multiple locations, including a business associated with the Hinds County district attorney.

The raids took place at Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens’ office and the Downtown Cigar Company on Wednesday, May 22. According to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, the Downtown Cigar Company, located on Pearl Street in Jackson, is associated with Owens.

“The FBI is executing a federal search warrants at the multiple locations. The affidavit in support of the search warrants has been sealed by the court and so I am prohibited from commenting further. There is no threat to public safety,” said FBI spokesperson Marshay Lawson.

WJTV 12 News reached out to Owens’ office about the raids.

“This morning, FBI agents came to our offices. We are fully cooperating with their efforts. The
Hinds County District Attorney’s Office is fully functioning and continues its work on behalf of
the citizens of Hinds County. That has been and will continue to be our primary focus. Currently,
we have no further statements,” a statement from the district attorney’s office read.
