JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – One man has died after a shooting in Jackson on Wednesday, May 22.
The shooting happened in the 5700 block of Medgar Evers Boulevard before 8:30 a.m.
Jackson police said two people were fighting at the location and shots were fired. One man died at the scene. He was identified as 39-year-old Juan Taylor.
Detective Tommie Brown said the suspect was identified as Jermiah Hampton, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Investigators have also identified a vehicle of interest connected to this case. The vehicle is a 2021 Nissan Altima bearing a Texas tag that reads TTW 9498. The vin number is 1N4BL4DV8RN382314.
“What I can say is this right here, we don’t need to settle disputes with guns. We advise each individual to put the guns down,” said Captain George Jimerson with the Jackson Police Department (JPD).
