Clinton house fire believed to be linked to Jackson homicide

CLINTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Clinton police believe a shooting and a house fire are connected to a Jackson homicide.

Clinton police said they responded to a report of shots being fired into a home in the 700 block of Cherry Park Boulevard on Thursday, May 23. No one was injured.

Investigators said the uncovered a connection between the drive-by shooting and a homicide that occurred in Jackson on Wednesday, May 22. Juan Taylor, 39, was killed during a shooting on Medgar Evers Boulevard in Jackson.

On Thursday, May 23, Clinton firefighters responded to a house fire at the home on Cherry Park Boulevard. A witness claimed to see two Black men pouring an accelerant around the perimeter of the home before attempting to set fire to the house. Authorities said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the home.

Clinton police and Jackson police are investigating the series of crimes believed to be linked between the two cities.

Clinton police said patrol units have increased in the area.
