Pearl police investigate after woman carjacked at store

PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – Pearl police are investigating after a woman was carjacked on Memorial Day.

Therese Apel, Public Information Officer for the City of Pearl, said the incident happened around 11:15 a.m. at the Save-A-Lot on Highway 80.

Investigators said after the woman finished shopping for grocery items, an unknown Black man approached her with a handgun and ordered her to drive away from the location.

According to Apel, the suspect took the woman to Jackson and forced her out of the black 2022 Nissan Altima on Mockingbird Lane. Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said the suspect struck the woman multiple times and drove away.

The woman was later transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC).
