HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Some Hinds County residents are unhappy with the idea of a solar farm being near their homes.

During a meeting on Tuesday, the Hinds County Planning Commission heard opinions for those who support and those who are against the solar farm.

Representatives for Apex Clean Energy said the benefits of the farm would be the production of clean electricity. Some Raymond residents believe the solar farm would negatively affect agriculture in the area.

“It’s going to be covering 6,500 acres of pristine farmland and wilderness, including black bears, eagles, deer, turkey and every other animal we love here in the state of Mississippi,” said Justin Franklin, who lives in Raymond.

The proposed solar farm would be fenced within 4,000 acres of land within and surrounding Bolton and Raymond.

Tuesday’s meeting did not see an approval for the project. Another meeting before the Hinds County Board of Supervisors will be held on June 17.
