JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Repairs to the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson are underway.
The preliminary repairs included removing carpet from the courtroom. Officials expect full assessments and repairs to start within the next month.
“That is where our jury is. This is where they do all their cases, the lawyers come down and everybody is there. It is a whole history in the courthouse, so that should be that is our main priority. So, whatever comes up, our main priority is the courthouse and the health of the people in the courthouse,” said Hinds County Supervisor Deborah Butler-Dixon, District 3.
The courthouse was in critical need of repairs. Officials said once the courthouse has been completed, other locations will undergo repairs.
“Our goal is to move Hinds County forward because it has been behind for years. So, this is what we’re working on to make Hinds County move forward in economic development and get our buildings in order,” said Hinds County Supervisor Wanda Evers, District 4.
The county has a budget of $6 million for the improvements, but they plan to allocate more money if necessary. There is no set timeline for when the project will be completed.
