JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the convictions and sentences of two brothers who were found guilty of the 2019 shooting death of a man in Jackson.

Jordan Terry, also known as Terry Jordan, and Jerome Thomas were both convicted of first-degree murder and drive-by shooting. On appeal, they both argued that they are entitled to a new trial.

Terry argued that the trial court erred by admitting an improperly authenticated surveillance video and that the jury’s verdict was contrary to the overwhelming weight of the evidence. Thomas argued that the trial court abused its discretion by admitting text messages that were hearsay.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals said the trial court erred by admitting the Kroger surveillance video without sufficient evidence of its authenticity. However, the Court of Appeals determined the error was harmless. They also said Thomas and Terry’s remaining issues are without merit.

Thomas and Terry were both sentenced to life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) in October 2022. They were also sentenced to 30 years for drive-by shooting with 15 years suspended and 15 to serve. This time will run concurrently with the life sentence.

Police responded to Ridgewood Road on August 19, 2019, where they found Myers with a gunshot wound to the back of his neck after his vehicle crashed into a tree.

Investigators said the two brothers followed Earnest Myers out of a store parking lot and one of them fired shots into Myers’ vehicle.
