Fifth suspect arrested for 2023 Port Gibson homicide

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Port Gibson police announced a fifth suspect has been arrested in connection to the 2023 shooting death of a man.

Investigators said Courtland Holmes, 35, of Port Gibson, was arrested on June 4, 2024, and charged with murder. He was booked and turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI).

The shooting happened on Chinquepin Street in Port Gibson on January 15, 2023. The victim was identified as Carl McDaniel. His body was found inside a pickup truck.

A fourth suspect, who was identified as Jamarrious Hamilton, was recently arrested in the case.

Robert Mays was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the case. Natasha McDaniel, who is the wife of the victim, was also charged with first-degree murder of her husband.

In February 2023, investigators arrested Justin Bailey, of Port Gibson, in connection to the fatal shooting.
