Third suspect arrested for fatal shooting in Sykes Park

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting at Sykes Park in 2023.

Detective Tommie Brown said police arrested Marqwan Weathersby, 22, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He was charged with capital murder, auto theft, and arson in connection to this case.

Brown said Josh Williams, 16, and Janiyah Williams, 17, were both arrested in connection to this case on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. They were charged with capital murder.

Investigators said the victim, 26-year-old Markell Brown, was shot in the 500 block of Sykes Road on August 2, 2023. His vehicle was also stolen.

Brown said the victim died from his injuries at the scene.
