RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One person died and another was airlifted to a hospital after a crash involving an 18-wheeler in Rankin County.
Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said the crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10 on U.S. 49 North near Star Road.
According to MHP, a 2019 Dodge Ram, driven by 26-year-old Joseph Cook, of Mendenhall, was traveling north on the highway when it collided with a 2022 International tractor-trailer.
Cook was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson with unknown injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
This crash remains under investigation by MHP.
