Body discovered in Jones County identified as missing woman

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Jones County deputies said the body discovered inside a vehicle on Monday, June 10 has been positively identified as a missing woman.

The body of Samantha Elisabeth McCowan, 32, was found at a business on Highway 184, according to investigators.

Investigators said an autopsy completed by the Mississippi Forensic Laboratory showed no indications of foul play. They also said deputies obtained security camera video from the area during their investigation, which also indicated no foul play.

McCowan disappeared after a crash on Friday, June 7. Investigators said McCowan was involved in a crash around 1:00 a.m. on Victory Road near Highway 184. After striking a Mississippi Power pole with her vehicle, deputies said McCowan was observed leaving the scene on foot.
