ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One man has died after a domestic disturbance in Adams County on Father’s Day.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the E911 Dispatch received a call from a woman shortly after midnight on June 16. The woman was crying and screaming for help. She repeated an address on Carmel Church Road before the line was disconnected.

Adams County deputies were dispatched to the area. Around the same time, E911 Dispatch received calls from Randrell Jones in reference to the incident. According to Patten, Randrell told dispatch that an altercation took place between his mother, Tawana Jones, and his step-father, Calvin Carter.

Randrell said Calvin had a gun and had taken his mother from a residence. He said he was trying to follow them down Highway 61 South. Randrell later told dispatch that Calvin had taken Tawana down Shieldsboro Road. Moments later, multiple gunshots were heard.

The sheriff said Randrell was detained, and Calvin and Tawana were transported to Merit Health Natchez for treatment.

During their investigation, deputies discovered that Calvin had driven to the residence on Carmel Church Road where his estranged wife was spending the night. They said Calvin parked his vehicle at a locked gate and climbed over the property’s fence. A short time later, Calvin was seen returning to the vehicle with Tawana.

Witnesses said Calvin was able to enter the home and assaulted Tawana. They said he also destroyed the interior of the home.

Calvin died from his injuries while at Merit Health Natchez, according to Patten. He said Tawana suffered cuts, bruises and broken bones from the altercation. She was released from the hospital.

Patten said no arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
