JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The first autopsy results have been released in the Dau Mabil case.

According to a report from the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, Mabil’s cause of death was ruled as a drowning, but his manner of death was undetermined.

The report stated no external signs of trauma or injury were identified that could account for Mabil’s death. A postmortem toxicological analysis of his liver tissue and decomposition fluid detected the presence of ethanol.

The report was released to WJTV 12 News by the family of Karissa Bowley, Mabil’s wife.

Mabil disappeared from his Belhaven neighborhood in March 2024. His body was found in the Pearl River in Lawrence County on April 13, 2024.

A Hinds County judge previously ruled that the brother of Mabil can conduct an independent autopsy.
