JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) said they’re taking steps to mitigate heat conditions at prison facilities across the state.

According to MDOC, the agency is bringing in additional ice, water and fans during the sweltering temperatures.

“The agency has completed providing air conditioning at one state facility. We are continuing to explore our options to provide air conditioning at our other facilities as well; however, there is no timetable for that installation at this time. MDOC staff within the institutions are included in these efforts,” officials said in a statement to WJTV 12 News.
