JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson could see another housing project development.
On Wednesday, neighbors attended a meeting to learn more about the project.
Robert Gibbs, a team member for the Village of Livingston development, said the four-phase project will develop 50 homes per phase with the homes ranging from $200,000 to $300,000.
The housing project was initially discussed during the last Jackson City Council meeting. Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 6, said councilmembers wanted to kill the project, but he wanted to give residents a chance to share their thoughts.
Current neighbors believe the project will be a target for crime.
“Well, it’s not the people that are still living in the area that we feel are concerned for their safety, it’s the people who are going to be moving in that area because, like I said earlier, it’s going to be hard to bring Hollywood to the ghetto and there not be consequences,” said Christopher Dishman, a contract painter in Jackson.
Others believe the project could be a great investment for the city.
“A project like this to get Jackson where they need, it’s going to take outside investment the city itself. We’re not in a place to invest in ourselves right now,” said Zach Service, a business owner in the capital city. “We need that type of neighborhood in Jackson. But at the same time, when you’re dealing with this part of town across from the Medical Mall, they have to work with the city to make sure everything is up to par because currently, people driving through the city, they just hate to stop.”
Stokes said another community meeting will be held in two weeks.
