GLUCKSDADT, Miss. (WJTV) – Gluckstadt’s police chief spoke out after a wrong-way crash claimed the life of a Canton teacher.

The suspect, Jordan Leah Sullivan, of Louisville, bonded out of jail on Monday, June 25, following the head-on collision.

The family of the victim, Tyra Small-Jackson, are continuing to cope with the fact that she lost her life in the crash on Interstate 55 on Saturday, June 22.

Police said Sullivan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-55 before colliding with Small-Jackson’s car.

“We were able to get a search warrant, and obtain a search warrant. We did recover blood. It was sent to the state brown lab and is being processed at this time,” said Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale.

According to investigators, a 20-month-old child and Small-Jackson’s father were also in the vehicle. Hale said the child and Small-Jackson’s father have been released from the hospital and are recovering.

Officers said Sullivan appeared intoxicated the day of the crash.

“I can’t go into detail about her criminal history, but she has had prior arrests involving narcotics and alcohol,” Hale stated.

Sullivan was charged with aggravated DUI and received a $250,000 bond.

“There’s too many people that have lost their lives because of that, and it’s just not worth it to ruin you. Not only ruin the family of the victim’s lives, I mean, now you’ve ruined your life because now you’re going to spend time behind bars because of a terrible choice you decided to make,” said Hale.

Sullivan is facing between five to 25 years in prison.
