JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The brother of Dau Mabil has filed an emergency motion judgment against Karissa Bowley, who is the wife of Dau.

Dau was found deceased in the Pearl River in Lawrence County in April 2024 after he disappeared in Jackson in March 2024.

Bul Mabil, Dau’s brother, asked the Hinds County Chancery Court to move forward with an independent autopsy and that his selected doctor should have permission to complete it.

But said Bowley rejected Dr. Matthias Okoye as the selected doctor. While Okoye has not been allowed to conduct an autopsy, Bul claimed the doctor meets the qualifications.

According to the first autopsy report from the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, Dau’s cause of death was ruled as a drowning, but his manner of death was undetermined.

The report stated no external signs of trauma or injury were identified that could account for Mabil’s death. A postmortem toxicological analysis of his liver tissue and decomposition fluid detected the presence of ethanol.
