CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – Friends and family gathered on Tuesday, July 2 to celebrate the life of a Canton middle school teacher who was killed by a suspected drunk driver.
The funeral for Tyra Small-Jackson was held at Mount Zion MB Church in Canton.
Gluckstadt police said Small-Jackson was killed during a crash on Interstate 55 on Saturday, June 22. They said Jordan Leah Sullivan, of Louisville, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-55 before colliding with Small-Jackson’s car.
Sullivan has been charged with aggravated DUI and is currently out on bond. She is facing between five to 25 years in prison.
Small-Jackson was a teacher at Nichols Middle School. She was selected as the school’s 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year and received numerous awards during her tenure in the district.
