TUPELO, Miss. (WJTV) – Tupelo police arrested two Memphis women for human trafficking.

Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka said officers received information of possible prostitution at a local motel on Monday, July 8. When officers arrived, they found three people inside a room.

Police arrested 19-year-old Terraneika Poplar and 20-year-old Destiney Plummer. They were both charged with human trafficking.

“Tupelo Police with the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services and the Center for Violence Prevention were able to make the arrests and rescue a female juvenile at the scene.” said Quaka. “This is a despicable crime and TPD will use all available resources to make sure these offenders, or any future offenders, are brought to justice. It saddens me that this type of crime occurs.”

Both Poplar and Plummer appeared in court on Tuesday, July 9. They were both denied bond.
