RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – Three family members were rescued after a boat caught fire on the Reservoir.

Reservoir Police Chief Carlos DiPuma said the incident occurred near Pelican Cove Grill in Ridgeland around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

According to DiPuma, a father, daughter and granddaughter were getting gas for their boat. When they were leaving the dock, the boat backfired and started smoking.

The family had to jump out of the boat, and they were rescued by another boat in the area. No one was injured during the incident.

Reservoir police, Reservoir firefighters, Ridgeland firefighters and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) responded to the scene.
