JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – One year after the disappearance of a Jackson woman, her family and the community are still looking for answers.

Latasha Crump Coleman was last seen on July 18, 2023, around 7:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Hidden Valley Lane in Hinds County.

One year later, it remains a turbulent time for her family. Coleman’s family believes her husband knows something about her disappearance. There was a brawl between her family and the relatives of her estranged husband, Derrick Coleman, in December 2023.

Danyelle Holmes, an organizer for the Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign, believes the ball was dropped when it comes to following up with leads in the case. Jackson police, along with the FBI, are still investigating.

Holmes said Crump Coleman’s case deserves attention and the same momentum as other cases. She said people must look at the components of race, class and domestic violence.

“The attention that Dau’s case got, and you have a white wife and a Black male, right? And that case sparked attention like none other. And this was a missing persons case. You have a Black family whose loved one has been missing, and the family may think foul play has happened. And yet they did not get the same attention,” said Holmes.

Anyone with information on Coleman’s whereabouts can contact the FBI’s tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477) or the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.
