COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss. — Law enforcement in Coahoma County, Mississippi is issuing a travel warning after several reports of shootings near a highway.

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to stay away from the Friars Point area near Highway One.

According to reports, several shootings have been reported in the area from 8 p.m. until the early morning hours. Investigators believe the attacks are random and gang-related.

Those in the area are asked to leave immediately and call 911.

The Coahoma County Sheriff has yet to confirm a fatal shooting, but family members of the alleged victim contacted WREG, saying the victim was shot and killed.

None of the family wanted to talk on camera or give the victim’s name, but the victim reportedly worked for a farming operation in Friars Point.

Debbie Watkins lives in Coahoma County, close to the intersection of Friars Point Road and Highway One, where she says investigators were looking over a crime scene Tuesday night.

“We got a phone call yesterday by several of our members of the church that a man was shot and killed up here on the highway,” Watkins said. “They looking over everything and they called and talked to my husband and they talked to me, but like we told them, we didn’t see anything.”

If you or anyone you know is a victim, you are urged to call the sheriff’s office at 662-624-3085.
