JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The State of Mississippi will pay compensation to a former Jackson police officer for his wrongful conviction.
According to court documents, Anthony Fox will receive $75,617.13 from the state.
Fox was released from the Madison County Detention Center in February 2024. This comes after the Mississippi Court of Appeals reversed his conviction in the George Robinson case.
Fox was initially convicted in the 2019 death of Robinson. He was sentenced to five years in prison in August 2022 after a jury found him guilty of culpable negligence manslaughter.
The Court of Appeals reviewed the case and found that the evidence was insufficient to support the verdict.
After the incident in 2019, Fox was later hired by the Clinton Police Department.
On February 6, the City of Clinton’s Board of Aldermen approved Police Chief Ford Hayman’s request to re-hire Fox. He returned to work as a K9 narcotics detective.
