Search continues for teen wanted in fatal Brookhaven shooting

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (WJTV) – Brookhaven police are still searching for a 14-year-old who allegedly killed a 23-year-old man in June 2024.

The Daily Leader reported the U.S. Marshal’s Service is assisting Brookhaven police with the search. Investigators have not provided the name nor a description of the suspect.

Police said the shooting occurred near the apartments in the 200 block of Pennington Street on June 22. The victim was identified as William Young. Investigators believe an altercation led to the shooting.

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins believes the suspect may have gotten help due to his age. He said the department is collecting evidence in regards to people helping the teen evade arrest.

Police arrested one person on Tuesday, July 23 for obstruction of justice.
