One injured in Gulfport officer-involved shooting

GULFPORT, Miss. (WJTV) – A suspect was injured after an officer-involved shooting in Gulfport, authorities said.

The shooting happened on Church Street on Saturday, July 27.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Gulfport police responded to a call for service. When they arrived at the location, Martin said they encountered the suspect who pointed a weapon at the officers. The suspect was then shot by the officers.

Martin said the suspect received serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officers involved in the shooting did not receive any serious physical injuries.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
