Woman pleads guilty to killing man at Jackson fast food restaurant

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A woman pled guilty to the shooting death of a man in the parking lot of a Jackson fast food restaurant.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Dominique Champion pled guilty to second-degree murder and drive-by shooting in connection to the death of Robert Earl McGowan, Jr.

The shooting happened at the Krystal restaurant near the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Robinson Road on June 10, 2021. McGowan’s body was found lying on the ground in front of the restaurant. He had been shot in the face.

Jackson police identified the suspect as Champion. They said surveillance video showed Champion calling McGowan toward her vehicle before she shot him.

Champion is scheduled to be sentenced on August 14, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.
