CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Miss. (WJTV) – An employee died at a Mississippi energy facility on Thursday, August 1.

According to officials with Hitachi Energy, the employee was servicing equipment at the company’s facility in Crystal Springs.

“We have been in close contact with local authorities regarding this tragic event and are fully cooperating and assisting with the investigation. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time,” said officials with Hitachi Energy.

Crystal Springs Police Chief Tony Hemphill identified the employee as 53-year-old Rodney Smith, of Crystal Springs. The Copiah County coroner said an autopsy will be conducted to determine Smith’s cause of death.

Crystal Springs police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also responded to the scene.
