ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A suspect is in custody after he fired multiple shots at a state trooper in Adams County, authorities said.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said a trooper initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 61 near York Road on a white 2017 Ford Fiesta. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Hollis Louis Green, of Natchez.

Troopers said Green attempted to flee, and during the chase, he fired multiple shots at the pursuing trooper. Officials said the trooper momentarily lost sight of Green and soon discovered the abandoned vehicle at a residence on Lincoln Heights Road in Adams County.

MHP officials said after a search in the area, troopers located Green just before 9:45 a.m. They said he was in possession of a firearm and was taken into custody without further incident.

Green has been booked into the Adams County Jail and is facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, felony fleeing, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in addition to various misdemeanor violations.
