MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was killed and a Clarksdale, Mississippi police officer wounded in a shooting around 5 p.m. Friday.
Officers with Clarksdale Police were responding to a traffic accident on McGuire Cove when “an altercation occurred” between the officer and a subject at the scene, state officials said.
The suspect fired a weapon, hitting the officer. The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, police said.
The person who fired at the officer received fatal injuries. The officer was taken to a hospital in Memphis.
Neither the officer nor the person killed has been identified.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is gathering evidence and will share their findings with the Attorney General’s office.
