Man dies after being shot in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Authorities are investigating after a man died during a shooting in Perry County.

Forrest County Corner Lisa Klem said a call came in around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 3 about a shooting on Ellis Odom Road near Richton.

Klem said a 33-year-old man was taken to Perry County Hospital after being shot. The man died at the hospital, and his body was taken to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The man was identified as John Odom, 33, of Sumrall.

Perry County Sheriff Jacob Garner said Brian Neal Odom, 50, of Richton, was arrested in connection to the fatal shooting and booked into the Perry County Jail. The sheriff said Brian Odom, who is the victim’s uncle, was charged with first-degree murder.

Brian Odom’s bond was set at $1 million.
