RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – Ridgeland police said a man killed his mother before he killed himself.

According to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers, the murder-suicide occurred in the 700 block of Orleans Circle on Sunday, August 4.

Myers said Vicky McDowell, 76, was shot and killed by her son, William McDowell, 43.

“Upon entering, we located Ms. McDowell, age 76, on the floor in the kitchen, and William McDowell, age 43, in a chair. Ms. McDowell had been shot in the chest, and Mr. McDowell looks like he had been shot in the head by the self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Myers.

The motive for the murder-suicide remains under investigation.
